Are you planning a trip to New Zealand for personal or professional reasons? Even before booking your plane ticket, it's important to think about the formalities for entering the country. Indeed, the New Zealand government has taken a measure for all travelers wishing to set foot on the territory. From now on, NZeTA is indispensable.
What is NZeTA?
Since October 1, 2019, all nationals of countries benefiting from the Visa Waiver scheme are required to present a document, notably an electronic travel authorization to airport control before staying in the country. For the USA, this authorization is known as ESTA, while for New Zealand it's NZeTA.
This is an electronic document allowing legal residence on New Zealand soil for a period not exceeding 90 days. It is an authorization for French nationals wishing to visit New Zealand as tourists.
Consequently, all foreigners staying in New Zealand or transiting through a New Zealand airport must have this document.
Where can I apply for the NZeTA?
The NZeTA is an electronic document that you apply for exclusively online, but you can also use a downloadable mobile app to get started. It's an easy document to obtain, given that it's issued in less than 72 hours after it's requested. As for costs, set aside NZ$12 to apply via a website and NZ$9 to apply via a mobile app.
As for its validity, it remains in force for two years.
Travelers who require a visa because of their nationality or length of stay are exempt from this formality. In this case, they must apply for an appropriate visa at the New Zealand embassy in their city.
What are the NZeTA eligibility requirements?
Please note that not all travelers to New Zealand can apply for an NZeTA online. First, you must be a national of a country benefiting from the Visa Waiver Program, including Canada, France, Germany, South Korea, Denmark and many others.
To apply, you must hold a passport valid for at least 3 months after the end of your stay. You must also have applied for the passport before leaving for New Zealand.
And most importantly, you must not have a valid visa.
