Most Europeans wishing to visit Vietnam require a tourist visa to enter the country. Only nationals of a few countries, such as France, benefit from a visa exemption for short stays of less than 15 days. After this period, regardless of your nationality, you must have a visa.
How to obtain a visa for Vietnam
Depending on the type of visa, there are different ways to apply. In all cases, however, you'll need a passport valid for at least 6 months before applying for a visa.
The classic pre-departure visa
To obtain your visa, the first option is to apply to the Vietnamese embassy in your country of residence. You'll need to fill in two copies of a visa application form, provide proof of identity and pay the visa fee.
To submit your application, you can either go directly to the embassy, or send the embassy a registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.
The cost of Vietnam Visa range from 85 euros to 165 euros depending on the type of application (single-entry visa for one month or 3 months, multiple-entry visa for one month or 3 months)
It usually takes 3 working days from receipt of your application for the visa to be issued at the embassy, but it can take up to a week.
Visa on arrival
You can also apply for a visa once you arrive at one of Vietnam's airports, at the immigration desk. For this procedure, you'll need an approval letter. This letter is provided by the immigration authorities and will enable you to obtain your Vietnam visa within 3 to 5 working days.
To make it easier for you to obtain the invitation letter, you can hire a specialized agency to take care of all the formalities.
The e-visa
The e-visa is a visa that you can obtain online before entering Vietnam.
You'll need to provide a scan of your passport, a passport photo and complete an online application form.
The visa fee for an e-visa is 25 $ and it allows you to stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 30 days.
