Copa Airlines unveils its 2026 ambitions: 420 daily flights and 88 destinations

El-Adjim Baddani·

Copa Airlines has announced its ambitious forecasts for 2026. The Panamanian carrier plans to operate a fleet of 121 aircraft, serving 88 destinations across 32 countries. This significant expansion will rely on a network of 420 daily flights from its main hub, the Hub of the Americas, located in Panama. The strategy aims to strengthen air connectivity across the Americas.

Pedro Heilbron, Executive President of Copa Airlines, emphasized the importance of these developments: "To support the growth we are projecting, we remain focused on strengthening the pillars that underpin our operation: a robust route network, a modern fleet, and the development of the talent needed for an expanding operation."

Network expansion and reinforcement

Over the past 18 months, Copa Airlines has already expanded its offering with the addition of new destinations such as San Diego, Tucumán, Puerto Plata, Los Cabos, Florianópolis, and Raleigh-Durham. The airline has also resumed operations to cities like Salvador, Salta, Santiago de los Caballeros, as well as several cities in Venezuela, including Caracas, Barquisimeto, Valencia, and Maracaibo. The company anticipates carrying 20.9 million passengers in 2026, further consolidating the Hub of the Americas as a key connection hub on the continent.

Panamá Stopover program on the rise

Alongside its route expansion, Copa Airlines' Panamá Stopover program is expected to see notable growth. The airline plans to reach 250,000 visitors through this program in 2026, following 215,000 tourists in 2025. To further boost this initiative, the allowed stopover duration in Panama without additional cost on the airfare will be extended from 7 to 15 days, offering more flexibility to transit passengers.

This measure aims to encourage travelers to explore Panama more extensively, leveraging the connectivity provided by the airline. Destinations like David, in the province of Chiriquí, have already seen increased demand, with approximately 25% of passengers arriving via connections from the Hub of the Americas.

Technological innovation: Starlink connectivity on board

Copa Airlines is also demonstrating its commitment to technological innovation by announcing the implementation of in-flight internet via Starlink technology. It becomes the first airline in Latin America to adopt this system, which uses low Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity during flights. The rollout of this service is scheduled to begin in July 2026.

This technological advancement will allow passengers to stay connected throughout their journey, enhancing the in-flight experience. The adoption of Starlink technology underscores Copa Airlines' commitment to staying at the forefront of technological developments in the aviation sector.

In summary, Copa Airlines' 2026 plans reflect a clear strategy focused on expanding its network, strengthening regional connectivity, improving the passenger experience through innovative programs like Panamá Stopover, and integrating cutting-edge technologies such as Starlink.
