Eurowings Launches Three New Berlin Routes for Winter 2026-2027: Rome, Bologna, and Baghdad

Eurowings is expanding its network from Berlin-Brandebourg for the 2026-2027 winter season, adding three new destinations to its schedule. Two Italian cities, Rome and Bologna, will join the calendar starting November 2, while a new route to Baghdad will launch in December. With 38 destinations across 17 countries, the Lufthansa subsidiary is reinforcing its strategy of growth toward Southern Europe, the Middle East, and polar regions, while targeting both leisure and business travelers.
For Rome, Eurowings will offer four weekly flights on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This frequency allows travelers to plan weekend getaways or midweek trips, with convenient connections from other European cities. Bologna, the gastronomic capital of Emilia-Romagna, will see three weekly flights on the same days. These new routes respond to growing tourism and economic demand from Germany to Italy, with Italy ranking among Berlin’s most dynamic international markets during the winter program.
The Middle East is also a key focus. Eurowings will relaunch its daily service to Dubai starting November 25, with a significant upgrade: all flights will feature the Premium BIZ Seat, offering more space, increased recline, and adjustable leg rests. This premium option, available for booking on the first two rows of the Airbus A320neo, targets business travelers and passengers seeking enhanced comfort. A new weekly route to Baghdad will begin on December 10, with an additional frequency on Tuesdays during the Christmas and New Year period. This expansion aligns with the airline’s affinity route strategy, catering to travelers visiting family and friends in Iraq.
The 2026-2027 winter season also marks an expansion into Northern Europe. Kuusamo, Finland, will be served starting December 20, while frequencies to Rovaniemi and Kittilä will increase compared to the previous season. These routes complement an already robust lineup of cities like Lisbon, Porto, and Bilbao, which are extending their summer seasons, as well as Edinburgh and Sarajevo, accessible during the holiday season and from December onward.
In total, Eurowings will operate 38 destinations across 17 countries from Berlin-Brandebourg during the winter season. This expansion aligns with the airport’s overall growth, which is expected to serve around 140 destinations in 50 countries this winter—ten more than the previous year. For French travelers, these new routes offer connection opportunities via Berlin, including access to long-haul and European destinations.
A Winter Network Redesigned to Meet Diverse Traveler Needs
Eurowings’ winter 2026-2027 program goes beyond adding new destinations. The airline has extended several previously seasonal routes, including Lisbon, Porto, and Bilbao, each with two weekly flights. These cities, already popular in summer, now benefit from a longer seasonal offering, allowing travelers to enjoy their mild autumn and winter climates. Services to London-Heathrow and Nice, which operated during the summer season, are also maintained, ensuring continuity in travel options to the UK and the Mediterranean.
For winter sports enthusiasts, Eurowings is strengthening its presence in Finland. Kuusamo, a renowned ski resort, will be served starting December 20, while frequencies to Rovaniemi and Kittilä—two iconic Lapland destinations—will increase. These additions reflect the airline’s commitment to diversifying its winter offerings, targeting families and adventure travelers. Notably, Eurowings won’t be the only carrier serving Kuusamo this winter: airBaltic will also launch a route on December 19, underscoring the growing appeal of Nordic winter destinations.
In Eastern Europe, Sarajevo will return to the winter program starting December 20, with two weekly flights. This move aligns with Eurowings’ strategy of developing routes to cultural and historical capitals, meeting rising demand for urban and heritage travel. Edinburgh will also be accessible between December 4, 2026, and January 4, 2027, with one to two weekly flights, allowing travelers to experience the city’s Christmas markets and Scottish heritage.
These adjustments enable Eurowings to cater to a broad clientele, from business travelers to culture-seeking tourists. The focus on connections and destination diversification also enhances the appeal of Berlin-Brandebourg as a major hub in Central Europe.
Baghdad and Dubai: Eurowings Targets the Middle East and Affinity Routes
The launch of the Berlin–Baghdad route on December 10, 2026, marks a significant step in Eurowings’ Middle East strategy. This service is part of the airline’s affinity route development, designed to meet the needs of diaspora communities. Iraq has a substantial diaspora in Germany, particularly in Berlin, and the resumption of this route facilitates travel between the two countries. The weekly frequency, supplemented by an additional flight during the holiday season, offers greater flexibility for travelers.
For Dubai, Eurowings will relaunch its daily service starting November 25, with a notable upgrade. The Premium BIZ Seat, available on all flights to the emirate starting December 1, offers a premium experience with wider seats, extra legroom, and enhanced recline. This option, bookable on the first two rows of the Airbus A320neo, targets business travelers and passengers willing to invest in superior comfort. The airline is also highlighting its ground services, including access to the Delta One Lounge in Los Angeles, where passengers can enjoy sushi bars, gourmet dining, and dedicated check-in facilities.
These two routes illustrate Eurowings’ ambition to capture lucrative markets, both for business and leisure travel. The Middle East, with its economic dynamism and large diaspora communities in Europe, represents a strategic axis for the airline, which is leveraging premium services to stand out from competitors.
Berlin-Brandebourg: A Hub on the Rise
Eurowings’ network expansion aligns with the overall growth of Berlin-Brandebourg Airport (BER). For the 2026-2027 winter season, the airport expects to serve around 70 airlines operating 140 destinations in 50 countries—ten more than the previous winter. This growth reflects BER’s rising prominence as a major hub in Central Europe, capable of competing with established hubs like Frankfurt and Munich.
This expansion is accompanied by a diversification of traveler profiles. By targeting a wide range of destinations—from cultural capitals like Rome and Lisbon to winter sports hubs like Rovaniemi or Kuusamo—Eurowings appeals to a broad audience, from tourists to business travelers. The airline has also extended several previously seasonal routes, such as Lisbon, Porto, and Bilbao, reinforcing its commitment to flexibility and diversity.
For French travelers, these new Berlin routes offer connection opportunities to long-haul and European destinations. Through its Berlin hub, Eurowings provides access to cities like Baghdad or Dubai while maintaining links to cultural hubs like Rome or Sarajevo. This strategy complements the offerings of other Lufthansa Group carriers, further enhancing the network’s appeal.
In summary, Eurowings’ winter 2026-2027 program is defined by ambitious expansion, with three new routes from Berlin-Brandebourg: Rome, Bologna, and Baghdad. Dubai benefits from a significant upgrade, while the airline reinforces its presence in winter sports destinations and cultural capitals. These additions reflect Eurowings’ strategy to diversify its offerings, target varied markets, and differentiate itself through premium services. For travelers, the new routes provide connection opportunities and new destinations, strengthening Berlin-Brandebourg’s appeal as a key European hub.
