Etihad deploys Airbus A321LR between Abu Dhabi and Brussels: how this upgrade transforms your flights to the Emirates

Since December 15, 2026, Etihad Airways has significantly expanded its service between Abu Dhabi and Brussels, increasing weekly flights from seven to eleven. This 57% capacity boost comes with a major innovation: the four additional rotations are now operated by the Airbus A321LR, a long-haul narrowbody featuring a First Class cabin—a rarity in this segment. For Belgian travelers, this evolution means greater scheduling flexibility and a premium onboard experience, all within just a few hours of the UAE capital.
The new flights supplement the existing daily service, now operated by a Boeing 777-300ER. The four additional rotations connect Brussels to Abu Dhabi on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Flight EY55 departs Abu Dhabi at 14:25, arriving in Brussels at 19:00, offering an ideal evening arrival for travelers from Asia or the Middle East. Conversely, EY56 leaves Brussels Airport at 20:50 and lands in Abu Dhabi at 06:45 the next day, perfect for connecting to morning flights to Asia or Australia. The daily EY57/EY58 service remains scheduled on the 777-300ER, departing Brussels at 09:55 and arriving in Abu Dhabi at 19:25.
A premium configuration unprecedented on a narrowbody
Etihad’s A321LR stands out with its high-end cabin tailored for long-haul flights. The aircraft, seating 160 passengers, features two First Suites in a 1-1 layout, complete with sliding doors and fully flat beds. The Business Class cabin offers 14 seats—also convertible to beds—with direct aisle access in a staggered 1-1 configuration. Economy passengers enjoy 4K 13.3-inch screens, USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. This setup reflects Etihad’s strategy: delivering a long-haul product on high-demand European routes without relying solely on widebody aircraft.
The airline took delivery of its first A321LR in July 2025 and plans to integrate 30 of these aircraft into its fleet in the coming years. The choice of this ultra-long-range narrowbody allows capacity adjustments based on peak demand without inflating operational costs. For travelers, this translates to competitive fares and increased frequency, particularly to high-traffic destinations like Brussels, now served multiple times daily.
Optimized connections to Asia and Australia
Brussels isn’t the only European city benefiting from this expansion. Etihad is also strengthening links with Kraków, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt while maintaining services to Dhaka, Zanzibar, and Palma. The airline’s strategy is rooted in demand analysis, with targeted capacity adjustments. In Abu Dhabi, the 06:45 arrival from Brussels captures early-morning connections to Asia, the Indian subcontinent, or Australia, while evening departures from Brussels offer an ideal early-evening presence at Zayed Airport for transit passengers.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Commercial and Revenue Director, notes that “customer response has exceeded expectations, with strong demand across diverse markets.” He adds that these additional flights aim to “attract more visitors to Abu Dhabi while reinforcing connections within our expanding global network.” For Belgian travelers, this means easier access to Etihad’s hubs, with schedules tailored to business travelers, tourists, and expatriates alike.
An offering aligned with growth momentum
This capacity increase continues Etihad’s strategy of leveraging a diversified fleet to serve Europe and the Middle East. The carrier has already announced similar developments on other routes, including new services to Luxembourg and adjustments to its programs for Paris-CDG and Frankfurt. The shift from seven to eleven weekly flights between Brussels and Abu Dhabi doesn’t replace the daily 777-300ER service but complements it with increased frequency, especially on peak-demand days.
For travelers, this evolution presents an opportunity to fly more often, with schedules adapted to their needs. Whether for business, leisure, or connections to Asia, options have multiplied. Etihad is positioning itself as a key player in air transport between Europe and the Gulf by combining capacity and frequency.
With this new service, Brussels solidifies its role as a major gateway to the United Arab Emirates, enhancing its appeal for passengers from Belgium, the Netherlands, or northern France. Travelers now have a broader choice of options to reach Abu Dhabi, with schedules suited to all needs—whether a morning departure or an evening flight.
How to book this offer
Tickets for the new A321LR flights are available now on the Etihad Airways website. The airline offers competitive fares, particularly for early bookings. Passengers can also earn miles through loyalty programs like Etihad Guest. With optimized schedules and a premium cabin, these flights provide an attractive alternative to conventional widebody services.
For travelers seeking a premium experience, Etihad’s A321LR represents a compelling option. Between flexible schedules, onboard comfort, and optimized connections, this service redefines travel standards between Belgium and the Emirates.
