Etihad to Operate Two Daily A380s Between Abu Dhabi and Paris-CDG

Emeline Dudoura·

Etihad Airways is significantly boosting its presence in Paris for the summer 2026 season. Starting July 1, the airline will add a second daily Airbus A380 flight between Abu Dhabi and Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, while maintaining a daily Boeing 787-9 service. The route will thus operate three daily flights in each direction until October 24, 2026.

For the French market, the signal is clear: Paris becomes one of the densest served destinations in Etihad’s European network, with increased capacity and a central role given to the superjumbo on a route where both business and leisure demand remain strong. This expansion comes as major Gulf carriers seek to better capture connecting traffic to Asia, India, and Australia.

Etihad presents this development as a direct response to the line’s popularity. The airline is banking on a long-haul product designed to attract passengers seeking comfort, as well as schedules optimized to facilitate connections via Abu Dhabi.

Three Daily Flights Between Abu Dhabi and Paris

Over the announced period, Etihad will operate two A380 rotations on the Abu Dhabi-Paris route and one daily 787-9 flight. From Abu Dhabi, flights EY31 and EY33 will be operated by A380s, departing at 02:35 and 14:20 respectively. The third flight, EY35, will depart at 08:50 in a Boeing 787-9. From Paris-CDG, flights EY32 and EY34 will be operated by A380s, while EY36 will be served by a 787-9.

This schedule allows the airline to offer multiple travel profiles throughout the day, with departures tailored to both business travelers and leisure passengers. For connections, the expanded timetable also provides better distribution of arrivals and departures from Abu Dhabi’s hub, a key strength of the airline’s long-haul network.

In its announcement, Etihad highlights that Paris is one of its most in-demand destinations. The airline believes that doubling the A380 service meets this demand with a higher-capacity aircraft while retaining the 787-9 for an intermediate slot.

The A380’s Return to Key Routes

The deployment of two daily A380s to Paris aligns with a broader strategy to reintroduce the superjumbo on the most profitable markets. After a hiatus during the pandemic, Etihad has gradually brought the A380 back into service on major routes, including London-Heathrow and New York. Paris now joins this exclusive group of destinations.

This decision is more than just a branding move. The A380 allows Etihad to significantly increase capacity without multiplying frequencies—a valuable choice on routes where slots are scarce and premium demand remains robust. The airline also leverages its flagship product, offering a more varied cabin experience than many competitors in the same segment.

For the French market, the route gains visibility. Connecting passengers can access much of Etihad’s network from Abu Dhabi to the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. In return, Paris benefits from enhanced access to one of the Gulf’s most active hubs.

A Premium-Centric Cabin Product

On the Airbus A380, Etihad highlights multiple service levels. The airline offers The Residence, its three-room suite on the upper deck, as well as First Apartments, a closed first-class cabin with separate seats and beds. The Business cabin features fully flat seats with direct aisle access, while Economy completes the offering with a long-haul-focused configuration.

The Boeing 787-9 operating on the Paris route follows the same premium strategy, with three travel classes and a next-generation cabin. Etihad emphasizes cabin pressurization, lighting, and in-flight entertainment—key differentiators in the Gulf carrier competition.

Commercially, this positioning targets travelers who prioritize overall journey quality over price alone. In this environment, Paris remains a strategic market for the airline, seen as a hub for loyal customers and passengers connecting Europe to long-haul destinations.

Paris-CDG: A Central Axis in Etihad’s Strategy

The increase to three daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Paris reflects Etihad’s ambition to solidify its position in major European markets. The airline faces strong competition on this route, from other Gulf operators to Air France and partner airlines sharing the same connecting traffic.

For Paris-CDG, this announcement underscores the French capital’s role as a gateway for exchanges with the Middle East. The route attracts business clients, tourists, and transit passengers heading to Asia or India. The A380 enables Etihad to absorb a larger share of this demand without altering the network’s overall structure.

The expanded offering also illustrates the gradual reclaiming of the A380 by airlines still operating the type. While some carriers have permanently retired the aircraft, Etihad is choosing to reposition it at the heart of its strongest markets. Paris is now among these priority routes.

Summer 2026 Schedule Announced

The published schedules reflect a timetable designed for connections. Flight EY31 will depart Abu Dhabi at 02:35, arriving in Paris at 07:55 in an A380, while EY33 will take off at 14:20, landing at 19:30. Flight EY35, operated by a Boeing 787-9, will depart at 08:50, arriving in Paris at 14:00.

On the return, EY32 will depart Paris at 10:40, landing in Abu Dhabi at 19:35 in an A380. EY34 is scheduled for 21:50, arriving the next day at 06:30, also in an A380. Flight EY36, operated by a 787-9, will depart at 15:50 and land at 00:30 the following day.

This timetable provides passengers with greater flexibility to organize short stays in Paris or trips with onward connections. It also allows Etihad to better distribute capacity throughout the day and maintain a strong presence in the Parisian market throughout the summer season.

With this deployment, Etihad reaffirms its commitment to the A380 for routes where demand justifies a high-capacity offering. Paris-CDG becomes a cornerstone of this strategy, with a route that steps up a gear and a cabin product that remains among the most comprehensive in the market.
