Thailand is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. According to the Ministry of Tourism, more than 38 million visitors visited the country in 2018, generating more than $41 billion in tourism revenue. Soon, travelers will have to pay a new tax to be able to visit the country. From June 2023, the Thai government has announced the introduction of a tourist tax of 1,000 baht (around 28 euros) per person per stay. Children under 12 will be exempt from this tax. Additional revenue of over 3 billion dollars is expected each year. The new tax is intended to improve the country's tourism infrastructure and support the tourism industry.

A new tax to pay for travel to Thailand from June 2023

Travellers wishing to visit Thailand from June 2023 will have to pay a new tax. This tax is in addition to a visa and a medical certificate for each traveler. It is intended for the protection and development of national tourist sites and the promotion of tourist destinations.

The amount of the new tax

The amount of the new tax to be paid depends on the length of the traveler's stay. Tourists staying less than 15 days in Thailand will have to pay 1000 baht (approx. 27 euros); those staying between 15 and 30 days will have to pay 2000 baht (approx. 54 euros) and those staying more than 30 days will have to pay 2500 baht (approx. 68 euros). It should be noted that this tax will also be paid by Thai nationals when entering and leaving the country.

How do I pay the new tax?

The new tax can be paid online via the official website of Thailand's National Border Office. Travelers will need to provide their personal information, travel details and payment information. Once payment has been made, they will receive a receipt which must be presented to the authorities on arrival and departure from Thailand.

All travelers entering or leaving Thailand from June 2023 will have to pay this new tax. It is in addition to visas and medical certificates, and is intended to finance the protection and development of national tourist sites, as well as the promotion of Thailand's tourist destinations.
