For the past six years, the world of technology has welcomed an electric airplane called Alice. However, as it is not yet in operation, many people are unaware of what this aircraft, which flies at 1,000 kilometers, really is. Here's everything you need to know and remember about the Alice electric airplane!
Alice: the electric plane?
Alice is an electric airplane introduced in 2015. It is a masterpiece that owes its invention to Israeli start-up Eviation Aircraft. Its features are as follows:
- 12 metres long ;
- 3 x 250W electric motors;
- Lithium-Ion batteries;
- 09 seats (by design) ;
- a range of 1,000 km.
In fact, the components of this aircraft are manufactured in different countries. The wings come from Singapore, while the engines and tailplane are made in England.
The special feature of this aircraft is that its fuselage, designed in France by the Multiplast company, is made of carbon fiber, the aim of electric machines being to reduce the atmospheric pollution previously created by combustion engines.
Because its certification is still pending, the aircraft is not yet in operation. 2024 is the decisive year for finally seeing it fly.
The Eviation Aircraft
Eviation Aircraft is a U.S.-based company that designs high-performance electric aircraft. Its aim is to make the demand for goods and people in the electronics sector sustainable and rapid. The parts used in the manufacturing process are highly resistant, which explains why the Alice aircraft's batteries have a high energy density. The company operates both in the USA and Israel.
Alice's electric propulsion
Take-off is the stage that enables the aircraft to gain altitude. For this to happen, it needs to be propelled by a special unit. To help Alice get off to a good start, Eviation Aircraft chose MagniX to provide it with what it needs for efficient propulsion. In 2019, with MagniX having made its delivery, Eviation Aircraft finds it is on track for certification.
What do you need to know about MagniX?
MagniX is also based in the United States. It is one of the world's leading defense companies. One of its roles is to offer high-performance propulsion alternatives that respect the environment. MagniX also offers electric propulsion services for motors and electric components.
Alice's design revisited
New changes have been made to Alice's design for 2019. Before it takes off, Aircraft will proceed to change its design. During this transformation, we'll notice that the number of seats has increased. From 09 seats, the aircraft can now accommodate 11.
The tailplane, too, has been changed from a butterfly to a T-shape. These modifications have been made to make the aircraft easier to handle for the pilot. The other thing that has been touched up is that two engines have been moved aft. They will thus be a little further away from the passengers.
MagniX has delivered the first engines. The latest modification is to the landing gear, which was previously conventional. It has now become a tricycle.
