Since November 26, 2018, Tanzania has simplified its visa procedure with the introduction of an electronic visa service. The aim is to encourage the development of tourism by making it easier for foreigners to enter the country. Thus, the objective for the government is to promote investment in the industrial sector and avoid bureaucratic tasks deemed too time-consuming.

What types of visa are available?

There are 4 main visas available online:

Ordinary Visa Ideal for stays of less than 3 months, whether for tourism or business. This simple visa will cost you 50$.

Multiple-entry visas Valid for 12 months, it is particularly useful for regular short-stay visitors to Tanzania. It costs 100$.

Transit visa Tanzania visa: essential if you are transiting through Tanzania, this visa is intended for passengers making a stopover on Tanzanian territory on their way to their final destination. This is the least expensive visa, 30$.

Business Visa This visa, unlike the ordinary visa, allows a certain number of special tasks, such as training courses or odd jobs. It currently costs 250$.

Fees are payable directly online by credit card.

How do I apply for a visa?

The procedure is fairly straightforward. To apply for your e-visa, you'll need a copy of your passport, a standard-size passport photo, and a document attesting to the reason for your stay, depending on the visa you've chosen.
It should be noted that at the time of application, it is necessary to choose between a city on mainland Tanzania or Zanzibar, and it is not possible to select both destinations.

Please note that the site is currently only in Swahili, with some questions in English. We strongly recommend that you use a browser with an integrated translator to fill in your visa application correctly, otherwise you could lose precious time when you arrive in Tanzania. You'll find plenty of information on this page before you get started: Tanzania Visa

Everything can be paid for online, so you don't have to wait until you arrive in Tanzania. On average, it takes around ten days to receive your electronic visa, so you can apply a few weeks before your departure.

Although the introduction of the E-Visa has made it much easier to travel to Tanzania, whether for business or pleasure, it is still possible to obtain a visa at any of the following locations embassy or directly on entering the country.
