Avianca Paris-Bogotá: INSIGNIA Business Class in 2027 to Revolutionize Long-Haul Flights

El-Adjim Baddani·

Since the restoration of its Paris-Bogotá route in July 2024, Avianca has transported over 330,000 passengers, solidifying its presence on the Europe-Latin America axis. But 2027 will mark a decisive turning point for the Colombian carrier: the introduction of its new INSIGNIA Business Class on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, featuring suites with sliding doors and unprecedented comfort for both business and leisure travelers seeking premium experiences.

The announcement, unveiled during Paris Fashion Week on October 5, 2026, comes with a clear promise: Avianca aims to position Paris as an excellence hub for its intercontinental routes by combining Latin American design, refined gastronomy, and cabin innovation. Since its return to Paris-CDG with three weekly flights in 2024, the airline has steadily expanded its offering, increasing to five weekly flights and then to a daily service by October 2026. With this growth, Avianca is positioning itself to compete with Europe’s major carriers on a market where service quality is becoming a decisive commercial argument.

The new INSIGNIA suites, set to debut on the 787 Dreamliners from 2027, will break away from traditional configurations. Each cabin will feature sliding doors and partitions, offering privacy comparable to that of Gulf carriers’ suites. The seats, convertible into fully flat beds with a 180-degree recline, will be paired with 19-inch 4K screens and Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones. This evolution directly addresses the growing demand among travelers for more enclosed spaces and a personalized in-flight experience.

Paris-Bogotá Route Expanding Rapidly

The direct Paris-Bogotá route, restored after a 20-year absence, has quickly established itself as a commercial success. In just two years, the airline has carried over 330,000 passengers, including 90,000 in the first half of 2026 alone. This traffic is part of a broader strategy: Avianca now operates 57 weekly frequencies between Europe and Latin America, with routes from Paris, London, and Barcelona to Bogotá, as well as flights to Medellín and Cali from Madrid.

From Colombia, the airline offers access to over 70 destinations across the Americas, including Lima, Cusco, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. For travelers heading to the Galápagos, the Paris-Bogotá route serves as the first leg before a connection in Ecuador. This offering particularly appeals to European tourists seeking exotic adventures, as well as business travelers thanks to the daily flight frequency.

The in-flight dining reflects this commitment to premium quality. Avianca has partnered with renowned Colombian chefs such as Álvaro Clavijo and Rafael Buitrago to design menus inspired by Latin American flavors. Travelers departing from Bogotá and Medellín can enjoy Home Burgers, while those flying from Europe are treated to products from Monte Vibiano. The airline also offers an “Anytime Meal” service, allowing passengers to order a meal up to 90 minutes before landing—a rare option on intercontinental routes.

Ground Services Elevating the Premium Experience

The INSIGNIA experience extends beyond the cabin. At Bogotá-El Dorado Airport, a dedicated check-in area welcomes passengers in this class as well as members of the Magno and Diamond tiers of the LifeMiles program. Travelers also benefit from priority services and lounge access. For continental connections within Latin America, the Business Class Américas product complements the offering, tailored to shorter flight durations.

This holistic approach responds to a strategy of differentiation against competitors like Air France, LATAM, or Iberia. By partnering with local brands and Michelin-starred chefs, Avianca is carving out a unique identity that blends Latin heritage with European expertise. A strategy likely to appeal to travelers seeking authenticity and quality in an industry where service standardization is increasingly criticized.

A Clear Timeline for the New Suites

The first INSIGNIA suites are expected to be installed on Avianca’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners starting in 2027, according to official announcements. The airline has not yet specified the exact date for their deployment on the Paris-Bogotá route or the full fleet retrofit schedule. However, technical details have already been revealed: sliding doors, physical separation between seats, 4K screens, and Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones. A world first for a Latin American carrier on long-haul flights.

Passengers can also look forward to new entertainment systems and personalized services, such as Meridian noise-canceling headphones and Maaji comfort kits. Wellness products now include items crafted by artisans from Chimichagua for flights departing Bogotá for Europe. A local touch that reinforces the identity of INSIGNIA Business Class.

Aligning with Avianca Group’s Strategic Ambitions

This evolution is part of a broader plan to modernize the fleet and diversify services. Avianca has already begun rolling out its Business Class Américas product across its Latin American network while maintaining a competitive economy offering. The group, which serves over 80 destinations in 25 countries, is leveraging the complementary nature of its hubs in Bogotá, Lima, and São Paulo to attract a diverse customer base.

For French travelers, Avianca’s premium push represents another alternative to Europe’s major carriers. With a daily Paris-Bogotá flight, innovative suites arriving in 2027, and cuisine curated by local chefs, the Colombian airline is positioning itself as a key player on the Europe-Latin America route. A strategy that could inspire other regional carriers in the years to come.

Only time will tell if this positioning will be enough to win over the most discerning travelers, accustomed to the standards of Gulf or Asian carriers. But with a constantly evolving offering and a clear commitment to differentiation, Avianca appears determined to compete at the highest level.
